Camping recipes: delectable desserts

After a hard day relaxing in the great outdoors, it’s always a good idea to have something sweet to tempt kids and adults alike around the camping stove. For excellent camping dessert recipes, look no further: we’ve got you covered.

Cooking desserts on a camping grill or stove doesn’t have to be complicated. With a little preparation, you can make sure that everybody with a sweet tooth is satisfied. The recipes are kid-friendly, so children can add a (sticky) helping hand.

Banana S'mores: popular banana and marshmallow dessert wrapped in tin foil

Banana S’Mores

Ingredients (per person)
  • 1 banana
  • 2 tbsp chocolate chips
  • 1 tbsp marshmallows


Method:

  1. Slice banana down the middle and place all other ingredients inside. Wrap well in foil.
  2. Preheat grill to medium high.
  3. Place foil-wrapped bananas in foil for 5-6 minutes, until chocolate is melted. Eat with a spoon. Ingredients in banana can be altered for personal taste; nuts are also a favourite.

Caramelised pineapple

Ingredients (4-6 people)
  • 1 pineapple, cut into spears
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp cinnamon


Method:

  1. Heat the grill or stove. Melt the butter in a heatproof container.
  2. Sprinkle half cinnamon on pineapple. Whisk remainder with butter and sugar. Pour the mixture over pineapple.
  3. Grill pineapple for 7-10 minutes or until golden brown. Pour over any leftover liquid and serve.

Cast Iron Skillet Brownie

Ingredients (8 people)
  • Cooking spray
  • 1 packet brownie mix
  • 3 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 5 tbsp water
  • 1 medium egg


Method:

  1. Spray your skillet with cooking spray and set your stove or grill to medium.
  2. Put all ingredients into the pan and whisk together.
  3. Place pan on the heat for 25-30 min, until edges are crunchy and middle of brownie is set. Carefully remove slices from the skillet. Serve with fruit or on its own.
