    As the site is located just off the outer ring road of York, there are no walks directly from site. Part of the nearby Sustrans route 66 is suitable for walkers though, and the route is of course ideal for cyclists.

    Cruise along the beautiful River Ouse, taking in the city sights. Join an afternoon tea cruise, or combine your cruise with a tour of York Dungeon – there are plenty of daytime and evening experiences to choose from.

    You could also follow the Ghost Trail of York, with guided tours every day starting at York Minster. Travel back in time and experience the terrifying tales of York’s ghostly traditions.

    Venture into the city centre and you’ll find a wealth of eateries and pubs – notably the famous Betty’s Café Tea Rooms. If you're bringing a furry friend, try the Fox Inn at Stockton-on-the-Forest, a dog-friendly pub.

    If you'd rather stay closer to camp, Monks Cross Shopping Centre has a selection of coffee shops and a Pizza Hut, plus there's a Toby Carvery nearby.

    The local area has plenty to do with kids, including guided tours of York Minster, days out at the National Railway Museum and adventures at the Jorvik Viking Centre with its exciting exhibitions.

     

    Further afield you can discover Yorkshire's many varied natural attractions including all that North Yorkshire Moors National Park has to offer and the beauty of Bronte country. Along the coast there are miles of beaches and towering sea cliffs to explore, and nearby Scarborough, Bridlington and Filey are all worth visiting.
