Activities & experiences nearby

Cycling
If you’re up for a challenge, try cycle route 2. The full route starts from St. Austell in Cornwall and links to Dover in Kent via the south coast, but the trip from Bridport is certainly challenging enough by itself. The route also runs through Dorcester if you fancy a shorter ride.

Route 267 is also nearby and takes you down to West Bay. If you haven’t brought your own bike, you can hire one from Bridport Cycles. You can also hire electric bikes with Jurassic Electric, who offer tours of the surrounding area.

Walking
There are plenty of interesting walks in the area on the South West Coast Path which start from West Bay and spread out across the Jurassic Coast, including Chesil Beach and Lyme Regis. Bridport is also a stop on the 625-mile beast Monarch’s Way, though it's perhaps a little on the long side for the average walker.

Things to try
If you’re a fan of ITV’s Broadchurch, this part of Dorset is home to many filming locations used in the series - like the infamous towering cliffs in West Bay. Bridport is also near to the highest point on the south coast, Golden Cap, which is well worth a visit for great views.

There's also the vineyard and winery at Furleigh Estate to tour, plus fossils and marine wildlife to discover at the Charmouth Heritage Coast Centre.

Pubs and restaurants
Visit the The Half Moon in Melplash for locally sourced food around 20 minutes walk from site. If you’d rather drive, try The Crown Inn at Uploders. Stop for a quick bite at lunch or a home-cooked meal in the evenings.

Rachel’s in West Bay is just under 15 minutes’ drive from site and serves a selection of seafood plus gluten free and vegetarian options. Also a short drive from site is Mangerton Mill, where you can find a delicious afternoon tea. For something more quirky, try The Station Kitchen in West Bay.
