• Cycling

  Daleacres sits near to the grassy flats of Romney Marsh. The well-trodden tracks weave through the countryside for miles and are suitable for cyclists of all abilities.
  
  Bike hire is available on-site, making it easy to explore the circular route that passes the Royal Military Canal. The Romney Marsh Countryside Project runs guided tours throughout the year too and long distance riders can access the National Cycle ‘Route 2’ Dover to Newhaven which passes right by the site. • Walking

  Explore the area on the circular route that can be joined at Burmarsh. The 10 mile circuit takes approximately 5 to 6 hours - not including a cheeky pub stop along the way.
  
  Hythe has some gorgeous sandy beaches to explore at Dymchurch, Greatstone and St Mary's Bay, as well as shingle beaches at Dungeness and Littlestone.
  
  Trekking routes include Tolsford Hill, an area of untouched parkland where you can pass over chalky byways, grassy meadows and sloping hills. You may get to see local wildlife, including wild buzzards and skylarks.

• Things to try

  Dymchurch is only a 10 minute drive south of the site with broad, sandy shores. Head north for five miles and you’ll find Hythe, a traditional medieval town with a pebble beach and bags of character. Both of these towns have train and bus connections.

   

  Discover the rural and coastal heritage at the Romney Marsh Visitor Centre. Inside is the location of the Romney Marsh Art Gallery which regularly hosts exhibitions from local artists.

   

  It’s a JAM on the Marsh takeover every July, with the annual multi-arts festival built around Kent’s magnificent Romney Marsh and its famous medieval churches.

  Head to Sandgate Farmers Market on the first and third Saturday of every month to spend a few hours browsing wares from local producers. Hythe also boasts two annual food festivals, in July and August.

• Pubs and restaurants

  Travel the world through your tastebuds in Hythe with everything from Asian to Turkish and from fresh fish from the coastline to traditional glorious pub food. Try out the popular Coppers Spice Café and Wine Bar, a quirky and stylish authentic Indian restaurant.

   

  Romney Marsh has many pubs, from old village inns to modern wine bars, with rich histories and stories of smuggling and more. You will also find many restaurants, takeaways and tea rooms in the towns and villages, from the traditional with lace-embroidered tablecloths and fine china to more modern with vegan and organic fare.

   

  Closer to home is The Shepherd and Crook in Burmarsh, a traditional old English pub, just over a mile away from the site. Or if a cream tea is more your thing, head across the field behind the campsite the Lathe Barn Tea rooms for a cosy lunch spot.

• Family days out

  Enjoy a fabulously fun family day out at Dymchurch Amusement Park, with plenty of rides and amusements to suit all types of adrenaline junkies.

   

  Take on the track with a Go Karting experience at the Lydd Karting circuit suitable for kids of all ages. For water-lovers, grab some paddles and hire a boat at The Royal Military Canal, where you can have a go at rowing or just enjoy the gentle canal. Test your balancing skills and take an escorted tour of Leeds Castle's picturesque grounds on a Segway.

  
  Dover Castle makes for a fantastic day out with the kids. Explore secret tunnels, stand atop the tallest tower, interact with exhibits, play games, join in events and run free on the grassy grounds.
