If you’ve decided to make your camping or glamping trip greener, or have taken the next step and hired a motorhome to try a spot of touring, you’ll need some nearby public transport to explore the local area. With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of Experience Freedom campsites that have easy access to bus stops or train stations.
Our Culloden Moor site has a bus stop just a minute’s walk away, which goes to Inverness where you’ll find plenty to entertain you, from galleries and museums to distilleries. If it’s the Scottish Borders you want to explore, head to Melrose Gibson Park, which has a bus stop just one minute’s walk, with transport going to Galashiels, Jedburgh, Peebles and Edinburgh.
Exploring the spectacular Brecon Beacons National Park is easy from our Brecon Beacons site, which has a bus stop outside its entrance. Buses run to Brecon and Abergavenny, which has plenty of stops on the way for you to hop off and take a ramble. For those wanting to explore the Pembrokeshire coast, head to our Freshwater East site. The Coastal Cruiser to Pembroke stops just five minutes’ walk away; once in the town, you can discover the excellent medieval castle.
The Eildon Hills, overlooking Melrose Gibson Park
Just south of the Scottish border is our Berwick Seaview site, which overlooks the North Sea and River Tweed estuary. Buses into Berwick town centre run from the site entrance every 30 minutes; once there, you’ll find plenty to keep you busy, from castles and gardens to sandy beaches.
Getting around Cumbria is simple from our Coniston Park Coppice site, which has a bus service from the site gate that runs to Ulverston and Coniston. Climb the Old Man of Coniston for beautiful views, or catch another bus to Windermere. In Ulverston, you can wander cobbled streets and visit the Lakes Glass Centre.
For easy access to the attractions of North Yorkshire, book a stay at our Thirsk Racecourse site. A bus service runs from outside the site gates to the cathedral city of Ripon and the bustling market town of Northallerton.
Outside Coniston Park Coppice
The beautiful coast of North Norfolk is within your grasp when you choose our Seacroft site. A bus stop outside the site entrance runs to the picturesque seaside town of Sheringham, while from the stop opposite the site you’ll reach the popular resort of Cromer with its sandy beach and pier. You can also catch a train to Norwich from Cromer.
Meanwhile, our Cambridge Cherry Hinton site is perfectly located for exploring this historic city with its imposing colleges. There’s a bus stop just five minutes’ walk from the site, which will take you to the heart of the city.
The picturesque Cotswolds are the ideal place for a peaceful and rejuvenating break. Stay at our Moreton-in-Marsh site and you’ll have easy access to several villages including Bourton-on-the-Water, as well as to museums, breweries and sports events in Cheltenham. Buses run from outside the site to these locations, as well as to Stratford-upon-Avon, the birthplace of Shakespeare.
If you’re heading for the hustle and bustle of the capital, our Abbey Wood and Crystal Palace sites both have great transport links to London. Both offer services into London just five minutes’ walk away – from Abbey Wood by train and from Crystal Palace by bus.
The Kent coast has much to offer, from shingle beaches to harbour towns and the rolling North Downs. Our Black Horse Farm site is ideal for discovering it all – a two-minute walk takes you to a bus stop that serves the recently regenerated town of Folkestone and the historic city of Canterbury.
The high street, Moreton-in-Marsh
If it’s the breath-taking South Downs that hold appeal for you, stay at our Morn Hill site, which is located at the edge of the National Park and within reach of Winchester, with its ancient buildings and vibrant atmosphere. Five minutes’ away from the site, you can catch a bus to Winchester or Georgian Alresford.
Dorset is famous for its seaside resorts, and they’re all accessible from our Crossways site. A five-minute walk will take you to the train station, where you can get transport into Weymouth, Poole and Bournemouth for a day on the beach or a wander around the shops. Trains also run to the county town of Dorchester.
Unspoilt natural bays, wildlife parks and outdoor adventure await on the south Devon coast, where our Hillhead site is located. From outside the site, you can catch a bus to the charming riverside village of Kingswear or the harbourside town of Brixham with its famous fish market. Buses also run to Paignton, with its zoo, sandy beaches and steam train.
On the south Cornish coast, you’ll find Merrose Farm, which lies a stone’s throw from Truro. Buses run from the main road at the lane entrance to the site into the county town, with its stunning Gothic cathedral and indoor Pannier Market. You can also get to the delightful fishing village of St Mawes. On the rugged north coast, meanwhile, our Trewethett site is located close to a bus stop that serves the quaint harbour town of Boscastle and the historic town of Tintagel with its dramatic views of the sea.
