  • Cycling Cycling

    Follow the Plym Valley cycle trail through woodland and open countryside. The route starts from Marsh Mills roundabout near Plymouth and is suitable for the whole family.



    The nearest National Cycle Network Route 28 runs from Okehampton to Plymouth. You could also follow Route 2 that runs from Dover to St Austell.

     

  • Walking Walking

    The southern tip of Dartmoor is perfect trekking country - the ground is relatively level and exposed making it suitable for different levels of ability. Climb to the Western Beacon and you’ll feel on top of the world!

    The Coastal Path contours the rocky cliff edges and soft, sandy beaches of south Devon which includes Mothecombe and Bigbury beaches. The views along the way are simply gorgeous.

    It is possible to walk into Modbury from site and it typically takes an hour. Reward your efforts with a bite to eat in one of the lovely Modbury cafes.

  • Things to try Things to try

    Step back in time at Saltram House and Gardens and find out what life was like living as a Georgian in the Regency period. Just 30 minutes drive away from the campsite, immerse yourself in nature as you lose yourself in the lovely secluded gardens.

     

    Learn about the creation of the award-winning wines from the Calancombe Estate with one of their wine tours and tastings. You could also enjoy a lunch of cheese platters, Mediterranean mezze, charcuterie and other tapas style dishes, in their Cellar Door Café.

     

    Head to the stunning blue flag awarded beach of Bigbury on Sea, with its gently shelving sands, it’s a safe swimming spot for a perfect family day out. There are also activities like canoeing and windsurfing and when the tide is out, kite buggies on the sands.

    There are country pubs aplenty in the area, try out The Ship Inn in Ugborough, The White Hart in Modbury or The New Inn in Totnes are all well rated for their freshly cooked traditional pub grub.


    Fresh and locally caught fish and shellfish are always on the menu at The Oyster Shack – a no frills, rustic, independent restaurant and deli that supports ethical fishing and serves some fantastic, fresh oysters!

     

    Get a warm welcome at the First & Last Bistro in Ivybridge and try out their seasonal traditional British menu, with a twist.

  • Family Days Out Family Days Out

    Get the whole family together and head off on a safari adventure at Dartmoor Zoological Park, just 30 minutes from the campsite. Animal lovers can spend the day spotting all sorts of species from African lions to speedy jaguars. There’s also daily talks and meerkat, otter and bears feeds to take part in.

     

    Step into Devon’s Stone Age past at Kents Cavern, less than an hour’s drive away. Tour the prehistoric caves or stay above ground to follow the woodland trail, where you’ll find out how these ancient people lived.

     

    Just 20 minutes from the campsite is Woodlands Family Theme Park, Devon’s largest theme park. There’s something for all the family, from amazing water rides, a zoo farm, exhilarating rides and one of the largest indoor play areas in the South West, it’s a fun-filled day out!
